Assessment on the Readiness for Widespread Adoption of Electric Cooking in Nepal

Winrock in collaboration with VRock and NEA Engineering Company Limited (NEAEC) are conducting a study on “Assessment on the Readiness for Widespread Adoption of Electric Cooking in Nepal” for Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA). The objective of this study is to assess the current and future electricity status of Nepal including generation, transmission and distribution systems’ capacity in national grid and off-grid renewables. Additionally, the study will also determine if the sector can support widespread adoption of electric cooking. The study findings will provide recommendations for creating an enabling environment for electric cooking and suggest appropriate roles for key stakeholders. The overall objective aims to support GoN’s vision for implementing electricity-based cooking in every household of Nepal.

Objectives of Assignment: The specific objectives are:
• Launch a comprehensive evaluation of Nepal’s electricity status as it relates to Nepal’s readiness for widespread adoption of electric cooking; and
• Support the design of a strategic and evidence-based plan for transitioning to electric cooking in Nepal from an electricity generation, transmission, and distribution standpoint.

Activities: Assess current and future electricity status of Nepal (all 7 Provinces) including generation, transmission and distribution systems’ capacity in national grid and off-grid renewables
