The Asian Development Bank is implementing the Carbon Market Initiative (CMI) through its Regional and Sustainable Development Department (RSDD) since the beginning of 2007.

CMI has three components:

  1. The Asia Pacific Carbon Fund (APCF) for providing upfront carbon financing
  2. The Technical Support Facility (TSF) for providing technical CDM support
  3. The Credit Marketing Facility (CMF) for providing carbon credit marketing support to the developing member countries

TSF has identified several projects from ADB’s portfolio that are eligible under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the Kyoto Protocol. The present TSF team is providing technical support to over 30 projects with funding from the Japan Special Fund.

ADB is committed to providing support to greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation projects under its financing portfolio on a continual basis and approved a three-year regional technical assistance.
