Early Action Forest Carbon Project to Prepare for REDD and have Equitable Carbon Financing Mechanism in Place
Emissions reductions from avoiding deforestations and degradation is a very cost effective climate change mitigation strategy. The UNFCCC has also agreed to incorporate the concept of Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) in the post Kyoto global climate treaty to be in place after 2012. Many countries are working for “early action” before 2012 in the form of capacity strengthening and pilot activities to prepare for implementation of an instrument after 2012. Nepal also need to be well prepared to harness any upcoming opportunity in forest carbon sector in near future.
WI and WWF Nepal Program initiation an early action pilot project across Terai Arc Landscape-Nepal (TAL-Nepal) for the benefit of conservation and that communities can crave future benefits post 2012 from the implementation of REDD principle in Nepal.
