Strengthening Rural Communities through Renewable Energy Technologies
Winrock International recently entered into a partnership with The Ford Foundation to implement a project on "Increasing Access of Poor Nepali Communities to Biogas Technology to Strengthen Livelihoods and to Enhance Environment Management". The project goal is to contribute for "Equitable access to clean energy technologies and benefits for sustainable livelihood and environmental justice in Nepal" Major Objective of this project is to build capacity of the community users groups and microfinance institutions to work jointly for biogas promotion to benefit poor households and to benefit the environment.
Winrock will work with the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN) to promote biogas promotion to community forestry users' groups. On the private sector, Winrock will work with micro-finance institutions (MFIs) and biogas companies.
This project will be implemented in Salyan, Dailekh, Surkhet, Gorkha, Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts of Nepal and aims to develop various financing models for biogas financing and install 5,000 biogas plants in community forest users groups' member households in next 3 years.
