Nepal Environment Analysis

Winrock International Nepal has recently won a World Bank assignment to undertake Country Environment Analysis focusing on Environmental Sector Review & Policy and Institution Analysis for Nepal. The analysis will be undertaken in close collaboration and consultation with National Planning Commission, various government Ministries, NGOs, donors and multilateral agencies to set the agenda for strengthening Nepal's environmental policies and institutions. The analysis started from May 2006 and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2006.

The overarching objective of this Sector Review is to guide the support provided by the World Bank and other development partners, as well as inform Government decision-making, in more effectively addressing the environmental challenges to poverty-reducing growth. The Review is expected to summarize measures and options consistent with the Tenth Plan to (i) reduce the environmental health risks borne by the poor, (ii) promote more sustainable management of the natural resources on which the poor depend and (iii) reduce vulnerability to natural disasters and climate change. The selection of these priority environmental concerns is based on their relevance to poverty reduction, and also considering the additional value of further analysis, and scope for subsequent action.
