Winrock International-Nepal's activities is also to increase Nepal's access to carbon financing through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol, voluntary market and Reduced Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD). WI-Nepal is involved in developing CDM Projects of Small Scale Project Activities in Biogas, Micro-hydro, and Solar home systems. Similarly, it also undertakes projects related to forestry carbon financing through REDD and related mechanisms.

Winrock International-Nepal is basically undertaking awareness and capacity development activities and preparing documentation for the potential projects aimed for CDM of the Kyoto Protocol and voluntary market.

Forestry sector

Winrock International-Nepal in partnership with various stakeholder undertakes the studies on REDD to assist government of Nepal on formulating the REDD policy ensuring equitable access of forest dependent communities to forest carbon revenue for the ecological and socio-cultural integrity of the region.
